Abby’s Big Debate

Client: Darrin Simpson (Independent Author)

Role: Graphic Designer & Illustrator

Brief: Design a colorful, high-energy cover and interior spreads for a story about a tween girl finding her voice. The visual goal was to use funky shapes and a bright palette to appeal to the middle-grade market, while using a specific, tight composition to reflect the character’s internal struggle with body image and the pressure of being in the spotlight.

The selected composition (leftmost) intentionally focuses on Abby’s body while cropping out her eyes, representing her worst fear: that she will never be seen for anything beyond her weight.
